Quick Observation

We saw numerous avalanches today - 50-100 loose snow avalanches on any thin, SW face over Connought Creek. We also saw evidence of 2 recent slab avalanches, both on East or NE alpine aspects (one appeared to be skier triggered over 8812 bowl, maybe someone involved will submit a report later?). Weather was pleasant - light to calm winds, temperature in the shady parts of Connought were between -5 and -10, skies were scattered in the morning, and nearly clear around 3PM. The sun was very intense in the middle of the afternoon, and hoar crystals around 4mm tall had formed in most shaded, sheltered areas. We skied Balu Pass, and the extremely heavy traffic last week was apparent in hand shear tests (tests broke easily over the surface of buried tracks, plenty of hoar crystals still easily visible on the buried surface)
