1/20 - Dug a pit at 4500' on a South facing slope in Cascadilla. Snow depth of 130 cm. The recent storms contributed about a meter of right side up snow sitting on top of facets, ECTX. 1/21 - Toured into Rescue Creek Basin and observed isolated cracking in the upper snowpack. Pit on a NE facing slope at 5000' confirmed failure at ECT8 at ~40 cm between recent storm layers without propogation. 160 cm of snow at test site. No whumping or recent avalanches were observed at these lower elevations. Challenging travel conditions and low clouds limited observation further up the valleys.
