Northwest Hancock

Skied out to NW Hancock. Found isolated pockets of instability (collapsing) on the approach, in a few different areas and aspects, though the snow may have been undermined by streams and/or terrain. Dug a pit on a southwest facing slope, approx. 30° pitch. 40-60 cm of fist hard snow on top of a talus bed surface. Appears to have been unaffected by old rain crust, and doesn’t seem to have held much snow besides what has fallen recently. Extended column test results: ECTX. This slope in particular lacked the snow to be of much use, but the new snow was pretty well consolidated and did not pull easily from the bed surface.
