Quick report
Toured up to near the top of Red Cone Bowl this morning/early afternoon. Calm winds (max 10mph on the upper ridge), clear skies, warm temps. New snow amounts as previously reported - 4 in to 10 in of very light powder. We were looking for wind slabs and found plenty ATL, especially on N slopes. The slabs we encountered seemed to be lying on top of unconsolidated new pow, not old facets, and were not at all interested in sliding downhill. The upper portion of RC Bowl got hammered by wind (upslope maybe?), with previous tracks excavated. The bottom was good light pow without wind affect. There was less wind affect on the W-facing side of the bowl. We also skied the E face of RC - the top section was a mixed bag, but NTL and BTL held loose pow.
Avalanche
D 0.5 in steep terrain BTL, in the trees between Red Cone Bowl and Horseshoe Lake. It appeared to be from 1/27 or 1/26; looked like a storm slab cut loose by a snowboarder traversing a very steep slope.
