Quick report
Went to ride an east facing Headwall at 8600 ft on Mt.Thielsen . Feeling the snow surface from the top some of it felt pretty soft and unconsolidated on the ridge lines but appeared smoother and like a thicker slab below my drop in point. I decided I would make a ski cut across the slope to a high point on a mid slope ridge. Upon dropping in the whole upper panel released and ran 1600ft all the way to the bottom of the slope. The slab was 6-16in deep and slid on a bed surface of dense wind-buff snow from the previous snow storm on April 28th. No one was caught and the snow surface was really good cold powder where it hadn’t slid on the less wind loaded panels.
Avalanche
Skier triggered D2 avalanche on an east facing headwall at 8600ft. The crown was 150-200ft wide and 6-16in in height. The slide ran the whole length of the slope and debris was up to 3ft deep.
