Snow conditions are what you would expect... super variable. I was able to link about 8 turns of soft faceted snow in an open/sheltered north facing slope but as soon as the tree closed in things got icey and there was a breakable wind crust in unsheltered areas. BUT... it started to snow around 1:30PM!!!!! Not much accuculumation but still there was consistent snow falling from the sky.
I dug a full profile in an open/wind buffed area on a north facing slope in the NE bowl below the peak and did not find any signs of insability (CTN and ECTX). I also did not find any faceted snow in this location, just well bonded layers of old snow and some melt-freeze crusts from our past storms. This is in contrast to a profile dug last friday that identified some faceting in upper layers. So not only are the surface conditions variable but so are the near surface conditions. We will be keeping an eye on this variability as we recieve new snow.
