Baldy Mountain

A fairly uninspired observation for an uninspiring day on skis in the mountains (especially weather-wise). Traveled up to 9000'—minimal accumulations of new snow on an edgeable melt-freeze crust from our warm periods. Melt has affected the low elevations here quickly, making for difficult travel below around 8,000'. Several wet-loose avalanches noted in gullies on the south half of the compass, and one old wet-loose also on a mid-elevation north aspect across the drainage. With snowfall amounts not really panning out from this storm, the next primary avalanche problems for this zone will be throughout the next warm-up period coming up this week. It is worth noting that the northerly aspects still hold dry snow beneath the newest melt-freeze crust at the surface and will be worth paying attention to later in the week as temperatures heat up.
