Good skiing, with some moderate wind affect in open areas. We stuck to the depressions to minimize impacts with well hidden rocks! Notable whumping and cracking around treeline on the shaded slopes we travelled, and we were able to trigger small, obvious pockets of windslab in the small lee rolls we ventured into. Convex lee slopes sure did not look like the place to be, especially at treeline!
We investigated the whumping and cracking we experienced near Treeline. The profile we dug (2100m on a NE aspect) indicated that the failure was in facets, just below a thin crust that formed during a week of high pressure in late October. We had startling Sudden, moderate results on both compression test and extended column tests. Additionally, in wind exposed areas nearby, we were able to trigger pockets of fresh windslab 20cm deep on convex rolls.
