Quick report
Observed D1 point releases on steep, east facing slopes. Did not observe any other signs of instability. Stayed below 35 degrees. Skied east and southeast slopes. Highest point traveled to was to 6,200 ft. The ridgeline showed minor effects of wind at 6,200 ft. As the ridge gained elevation, it also gained a cornice on the northerly side. Powder was well preserved into the late afternoon an east-facing slope. On open southeast slopes, we encountered a brittle, 1-2 inch sun crust. There were still some lovely powder turns and face shots sprinkled in here and there. There was a foot of snow at the car, and 20 inches of boot penetration at 6,200 ft. Coverage in the lower elevations was fine, albeit a little trapdoor-y in areas with blowdown. But it skied alright down to 4,400 ft. We spent most of the afternoon on a solar aspect and the trees were not dripping wet nor did we observe pinwheels. Winds were light, and we enjoyed abundant glitter showers. Very grateful for this day in the Middle Fork.
