Sprinkling rain in the valley, with light snow in the mountains with fluctuating periods of heavier snowfall. Fog and clouds hung around for most of the day, then cleared a bit at the end.
Snowpack
At 6300' on a northeast facing aspect, we found 20cm of new snow sitting on top of a 13cm thick P- rain/ melt freeze crust that developed at the end of March. The new snow appeared to have bonded pretty well to the crust. Directly below the thick crust there was a layer of 4F heavily saturated and wet snow. We dug down 100cm and found either wet or moist snow, and this saturation likely extends much deeper into the snowpack. On a ski cut, we could get the top 15cm of surface snow to sluff easily. CT11 RP down 15cm. CT24 SC down 33 x2 underside of crust/wet snow interface. Small sluffs is steep terrain wanted to run on the crust, but the size of the sluffs were confined to the 15-20cm of new snow.
