We found 2 up to about 3 feet of new snow since March 11 at mid and upper elevations. Today's winds were easily drifting the recent snow into deeper slabs on leewards slopes. Rain at lower elevations, sub-4,000 feet made the snow sticky but wasn't enough liquid preciptation to wipe away the shallow snow cover. We were able to ascend and descend the summer trail on skis with only minor shuffling around downed trees.
Cracking was confined to drifted areas. Base of the crack was at the new snow/ melt-freeze crust interface formed during warm, sunny weather last weekend.Weather

Obscured skies for most of the day and foggy the higher we climbed. Light precipitation started around 11:15 am in the form of sleet around 3,000 feet. Precipitation changed to all snow around 3,500 feet in the morning and continued S1 to S2. On the descent in the afternoon, we ran into a wintry mix from 4,000 to 3,800 feet, then all rain below that.
Snowpack
We found the latest mid-storm rain crust up to about 6,400 feet. There, it was very thin and brittle, and disappeared completely just a bit higher in elevation. Lower in elevation, the upper rain crust was around 1 cm thick. Around 5,000 feet, we found 50 cm of new snow since 3/11 and about 10 cm sandwiched between the mid-storm rain crust and the old melt-freeze crust from March 7 to 9. Around 6,000 feet and higher, we found 65 to 80 cm of new snow since 3/11 and about 20 cm sandwiched between the mid-storm rain crust and the old melt-freeze crust from March 7 to 9. Below today's snowfall was another brittle melt-freeze crust on southeast, south, and southwest-facing slopes from the warm, sunny weather last weekend. This crust was so thin and inconsistent across the terrain that we hardly felt it descending. We did not find it on due east or west-facing slopes. Overall, decent bonding of upper snowpack layers, but we did not travel on leeward-facing slopes. Once we descended lower in elevation toward the afternoon rain line, we were able to kick small rollerballs downhill on steeper convex rolls. They did not entrain additional snow.
