Freemont Peak

Accessed Inner Basin via Upper Bowl. Near whiteout on ridge with strong East winds and active snow transport. Mostly cloudy with consistent winds, however no measurable precipitation during the day. Skied north facing terrain NTL-BTL on Freemont Peak. Near treeline isolated cracking noted in areas with clear wind affect. Single collapse noted in an area with prior mid storm wind loading. Pit dug at same elevation in area more representative of skied terrain and with less wind affect. HS 195cm, mid storm interface identified at 160cm. Crust noted at 130cm. ECTX result. Overall stability was as expected. Storm slab alone does not appear to have the strength to promote propagation based on our observations. Fresh wind slabs remain reactive however propagation limited by inconsistencies in terrain. I suspect our collapse on a low angle feature was in line with the small avalanche observations in Alison Clay in an area with moderate wind loading. Slopes with southern aspect below tree-line with shallow crust from likely mid-precipitation sun. Still a lot of snow remains in the inner basin with HS 150cm at 10,000ft.
