Robinson Creek

Today I took a walk up Robinson Creek outside of Twin Lakes. I strapped on some hiking boots and hit the dirt, there was very little snow to be found, which is why I went here, to see what this upcoming storm would fall on. I can say with confidence that there isn’t much snow in this area. Complex and sheltered North facing alpine terrain was holding slivers of snow, Neve with a dusting on top.

South-facing slopes at all elevations in the Robinson Creek drainage were completely dry and east-facing terrain had a dusting of snow. From Twin Lakes Road I could see some snow around the base of the Matterhorn, mostly in the alpine. The limited snow that I did come across was sugary, dry, and loose.  Localized areas of surface hoar were growing in sheltered locations along the creek. 

Thankfully there is a storm on the horizon and we will be monitoring snowline and snowfall amounts closely when the precipitation starts early Monday morning.
