Quick report
Warm and overcast day at Sonora Pass. Light rainfall to 8600ft, and wet snowfall above that. Most areas had a layer of wet snow on the surface, and some roller ball activity was observed. Riding quality improved above 9400ft.
By probing, we found a few areas with old faceted snow under the Christmas storm snow, but it took some searching to find it buried shallow enough that digging to it was reasonable and that triggering it from above seemed possible.
Snowpack test results were still unstable, and this was at a location over a mile away and about 1,000ft lower than where the two large snowmobile triggered avalanches occurred last Saturday.
