Quick report
Dug on an east aspect at 4720 in a sheltered location from the wind CT3 SP down @ 45cm. gp sz 2 CT10 SP @ 60cm. Prev melt freeze surface. DF 2. Fc 1 0 to 50cm. Fist 50-68. Between fist and 4F 68 cm down crust Largest concern would be a storm slab avalanche on either the layers mentioned above and especially with potential that steps down further to Jan 10 or Jan4 weak layer. Windy, so these interfaces could in wind drifted areas would cause storm slab crowns to be much deeper. We did not travel on north aspects, but would be especially concerned by special variability of the facets or surface hoar at the interface with the new storm snow
Avalanche
Observed one skier triggered new avalanche on an east aspect at ~4420’ in swift creek, photo included, was not caught. Discussed with group at bottom. Very uncommon setup in our snowpack at the moment. Well worth dialing it significantly back, keep wide margins, avoid unsupported slopes, terrain traps.
