Quick report

1. Wind Conditions: “Party people!” in the high mountains today witnessed winds that didn’t stop, increasing as the day went on. 2. Snow Level: Holding steady at 6,800 feet or above. 3. Snow Accumulation: Between 7,000 and 8,000 fee,- 3-4 inches of heavy, wet snow. 4. Avalanche Activity: • A small, natural cornice failure on an east face, smaller than D1, reminding us of nature’s rhythm. • Isolated cracking observed on a south-facing slope, party on the January 2nd layer. 5. Snowpack Tests: • The January 2 layer was verified across multiple aspects: W, NW, N, NE. • Extended Column Test (ECT) • ECTP on a north aspect at 8,000 feet • ECTV on a north aspect,. • ECT Propagation (ECT PH) on the northwest at 8,000 feet, “Upside down and inside out”, showing us what the January 10th PWL is all about. • ECT No Propagation (ECT N) on northwest at 7,700 feet, keeping it smooth on the January 10 PWL. 6. Audible Snowpack Instability: “Whoomp! There it is” - multiple ‘whoomps’ heard across the slopes.
