We arrived at the Crystal parking about 10am. The parking lot was just above the rain line and remained so until we left around 2:30. There was 8-10" of new wet snow that easily packed into snowballs. On a very protected, north facing aspect above 5800 ft, the new snow was poorly bonded to the underlying surface, and nearly every unsupported pillow edge would break cleanly and would propagate to the edge of the pillow. We skied another more open run with less unsupported features and didn't see any obvious signs of instability. However, a quick hand pit revealed a mix of crusts and facets at the new old interface so I am going to be more wary of avalanche terrain if we continue to increase the load on that layer this week.
