Gash knob

We took a few runs in the main bowl at Gash knob. The only recent natural activity we saw was some wet sluffing on solar aspects. We broke track all the way in, and did not hear any collapsing, however we got one pronounced collapse at 7,000 feet at the very bottom of the main bowl. We dug a pit around 7,800 feet in wind sheltered, N facing trees adjacent to the normal Gash uptrack. Total depth was 140cm. We easily found facets in the bottom of the snow pack, and two crusts around 80 and 90 cm down. We didn't have any test results (ECTX). We had already made a decision to stick to low angle terrain before leaving the car due to overall lack of knowledge of the snowpack and the deep nature of the persistent avalanche problem. So we stuck to our low angle terrain plan despite stable pit results. Although total snow depths are still only less than a foot below 7,000 feet, we thought the ingress and egress were doable for Gash.
