Quick report

The persistent slab problem was not reactive on tests in this zone today. Poor structure still warrants healthy caution in steep, shaded terrain. Upper snowpack becoming moist on solar aspects today. Although very shallow, this wet snow was moving easily on the 12/22 MF crust on solar aspects. No signs of instability noted.

A beautiful, albeit unseasonably warm day in the mountains. Very light winds out of the SW. Strong solar radiation impacting the snow surface before noon.

Snowpack

We dug three pits today. I wanted to focus on east and west terrain. Pit A was a W aspect right around 7500', HS 87 cm. ECTN 17, 15 cm down on rounding facets below 12/22 MF crust. Pit B was at 7400 on a SE aspect, HS 63 cm. Very moist snow in the upper 7 cm above the 12/22 MF crust. No facets near the ground here, mud at the ground (mud on my probe, mud on my shovel, mud on my p cord), ECTN 12 above a pencil hard crust 13 cm down. Pit C was E/NE aspect at 7600', HS 116 cm. This is the typical structure we've been seeing throughout the forecast zone. ECTN 11, a density change 25 cm down within a 4F hard slab. 25 cm of 1.5 mm rounding facets near the ground.
