Quick report
Very warm (only t-shirt until 10K’ breeziness picked up) afternoon and early evening ski tour along Galena Creek and up along SSW face to summit (via scramble last 200’ ascent). Skinning on the rewarmed snow was mostly stable with a few spots that slid out old skin track on mid-high 30s slopes. Noticed no other signs of instability beyond a fresh-looking roller track around 8500’ on the headlamp descent. Leveraged ski crampons and ice axe for final snow pitch from 10K until melt-out around 10.6K’ though, except for axe shaft, unsure how useful they were/would have been in those soft conditions. North side of Rose looked like decent snow despite spots of likely wind-caused low tide (and coverage views of north side Tamarack, Houghton etc looked good as well), but time didn’t permit even a brief lap to verify. Dusk ski remained reasonably soft, easily edgeable and surprisingly fun even over uneven (penitente-in-process) terrain all the way back down to Galena Creek (via large bowl and drainage). Finally, immediately before transitioning back to skins at 8100’ to get back to my car, I did a couple quick turns off the 4x4 track (north facing, sheltered) on easily the best snow of day (still very light and dry).
