Snowpack
I was solo, with zero ambitions to get near Avy terrain. Had to break trail off hiway thru a combination of deep storm snow with around 18” ski penetration or more, supportive crust, and breakable crust …I only went to 4700’ because of the slow trail breaking and time commitments. The small slope I was barely able to put turns on was around 20 degrees and west facing. Previous sun had given it a half inch layer of breakable crust which was awful to ride. The 2’ of storm snow underneath was relatively dry and without any layers, as it had been a good coldish storm at the end of last week, after the warm front had moved on. There was no evidence of rain in this area (unlike at Stevens Pass) Interestingly to note, another group skied that morning quite nearby and found good snow on what looked like to be a steeper North Face. They were also a few hundred feet higher…and a solid mile of trail breaking further…Wisely, they went no higher. I also noted that nobody had ridden the East Face of Diamond Head…Seems like people took your Avy rating seriously.
