Dug a hasty pit at the top of moraines of the first bench (2165 m, N aspect). Found HS 120 cm with 40 cm of F, on top of 20cm of 4F. Below that, P resistance to base.
We turned around at 2640m just ~50m below the col as we found the upper snowpack had changed to ~30cm of 4F soft slab was failing with hand shears on top of a 1F bed surface.
Excellent ski quality down the run with deep powder, great coverage and a 1m+ right side up snowpack steadily transitioning from F to P.
No coverage issues skinning up Chickadee valley. Creek has some open areas, but snow bridges are available when you need them. Calm winds and cold temps all day.
No sign of recent avalanche activity, some old debris buried beneath storm snow in fans in N alp.
