Burstall Pass Peak - Jan 17, 2026. Perfect January weather to get into the alpine. Strong winds but with the warm temps it wasn't bad, kept us cool. Inversion with -15C at the parking lot, 0C in the flats, -4C below Snow Peak and -1C the summit. Snow stayed dry. A thin temperature crust noted below treeline. Surface hoar present where the winds couldn't blow it away. Found lots of wind blasted snow above treeline. Didn't find any slabs to be reactive. Ski quality was surprisingly OK where we skied between the firm spots, and quite good below treeline. Travel was quick. 19km 800m gain in 6 hours. If anyone finds a colorful ballcap with a tree logo in the parking lot or within ~1km of it, let me know...... *someone* put it on the roof of the car.
