Quick Observation

Skinned up summit creek to summit glacier and skiied a southwest facing line off Taiya ridge. -20, bluebird, no wind at roadside @ 1040. Soft snow with 5cm ski pen until ~1300m, and variable above that with a mix of breakable crust and hard packed powder. The line we skiied held consolidated powder, with last week’s storm snow bonding well to the older layers below. Temps warmed throughout the day to around -5, and intense solar heat started to affect the snow on south aspects: we noticed some small pinwheeling from rocks shedding snow above, the snow getting heavier and water drops forming on skis. The spring sun is here. It was a reminder to start getting earlier starts especially if planning to be on south aspects. A south wind picked up in later afternoon and grew fairly strong, transporting the newer snow at all elevations.
