Heartstrings

Easy travel along the Joffre Lakes trail to middle lake. On the approach to heartstrings, there was a thin layer of wet snow covering a solid snowpack. We only had 1-2cm ski penetration the whole way up. We made it to the entrance around 1:30 and found a few good turns of 10cm lighter snow. The snowpack felt very supportive. Below 1800m the snow turned to wet heavy slush. The trail back to the parking lot remained hardpacked into afternoon. Clouds were rolling on through the day, but visibility was stable. It was warm enough for sports bras and tshirts on the skin up, feels like spring.
