Nickis

Cold and sunny with good travel conditions and visibility. We travelled up to Balu pass and onto Nickis Notch. On our route, we travelled through a variety of snow surfaces - soft snow with near surface faceting (ski pen 15-20cm) where previously wind-pressed. Windward aspects (WSW) featured wind crust/wind pressed snow and wind slabs in lee. Looking south, Ridge winds on mount Bonney were strong.
Top of nickis (skiers left) a wind slab is easy to avoid by entering on the right - still sharks to be had near the top and a few spots throughout. Skied over tracks from the previous day(s). An old crown line can be seen from below when you look up at the line.
Not the softest snow in there today a bit wind affected, slightly boot-grabby but aesthetic and fun nonetheless.
Merry Christmas!
