Middle Kootenay Peak

Steven Noël, Thursday 6th April, 2023 5:50PM

-3 at the car at 0700. Chinook winds increased to ~70km/h at ridgetop with some ongoing transport of what little powder remains on westerly slopes. The alpine was predominated by bulletproof crusts and soft/hard wind slabs that seemed generally unreactive. The sun had a bit less kick than expected and mashed potatoes stayed below 1900m even on solar aspects. Cornices are large to very large, and some are in the process of failing. A couple recent failures failed to step down on steep E aspects. Overall a beautiful day.
