Early tour into sugar bowl. We climbed to the W of the couloir and skied the trees in the afternoon. At ridge top (1700m) we observed 180cm snow depth. The November ice layer is alive and well down 125cm, with sugary snow above this layer. Storm snow is mostly unconsolidated (fist to 4finger) in the upper 60cm before a less pronounced melt crust showed up. From 60-125cm snow is 4finger to 1finger until the sugar snow is reached. No reactions or signs of instability were observed. No evidence of recent avalanche activity observed.
Weather was overcast, ~-3 to -5 for most of the day. Winds were almost nil, and what there was came from the N (keeping things cool).
Skiing was excellent down to ~1400m and continued to be decent all the way to the road. Around 1200m the temperature approached zero and snow was starting to feel heavy. Overall it was a great day of February tree skiing - in November!!
