Hero's Knob - Boiler Plate

We rode Hero's Knob today and found hard snow on both the ascent and descent. The descent (NW) side was boilerplate crust down to maybe 2300m and hard to breakable down to at least 2000m. The wind did leave a lovely elevated skin track to the saddle! Cold and clear: -22C at the car in morning and -15C on the ridge (2400m) after lunch. No new avalanches observed. Very little cornice observed on the headwall above. I hope the guy we saw skiing down with a broken ski on his pack made it back OK!
