Quick Observation

Today north of Sparwood we were rewarded for seeking out lower freezing levels. It was a true stormy day, so little to no visibility into the alpine. Total new snow was 15 - 20 cm and in sheltered areas it was much deeper as the old snow surface was still soft. The winds were moderate with strong gusts from the SW all day, this coupled with the new snow and low visibility kept us out of the alpine and far away from any overhead hazards. We also are still on the look out for surface hoar in the South Rockies region but are not finding anything significant and new snow seems to bonding to previous surfaces. We did have a few resistant burp test results down 30 cm on a preserved stellar layer that is decomposing. We will be giving this new storm snow some time to settle.
