What Rain Event?

summitavalancheteam, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

The Jan 20 rain event can’t be found above 1500 in the Sukunka/Upper Burnt area. Great pow in the trees and at Treeline. The mountain tops were wicked in but the one good glance I got showed heavily wind scoured rocky ridges on a SW slope. It was between 0 and -1 at 1500m, and the snow was way in full sun. Saw a moderate test result down 25 cm in the snow layers but nothing concerning for where we were. At 1300 m it was +3 and the snow was wet, with rain/melt crusts down 5 and 8 cm. Definitely worth going looking for snow if you can get up high in the trees. Heavy pow is still pow!!
