Ice - Heart Creek

Grant P, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Approx 2cm to 3cm of fresh snow on the approach trail. Left hand flow had ice but covered in a layer of new snow making it hard to evaluate how wide or thick it actually was. Short screws may be an advantage. Right hand flow was climbable but not in the greatest shape. The first approach ice was delicate and a little scratchy on rock. The steeper section of ice was actually in decent shape and took 13's and even 16's. However once you top out the steeper part it gets thin or snow covered rock. At first I went to the bolted anchor up left but a subsequent lap I thought about changing the rope to the trees. When I tried getting up the rock I discovered a pair of chains under some snow. These make a far better anchor currently than sketching up and left. I included a photo on rap to show the chains location in case you aren't familiar like I wasn't. There was some running water in a couple spots but considering this was a plan C and our team was 50% gimping, it was better than just taking tools for a walk.
