30-40 cm of recent HST overlies the Nov 15 MFcr. While the older HST appears to be bonding well to the Nov 15 MFcr, we observed a reactive storm slab that was failing on a stellar/facet interface down 20-25cm. This layer was touchy and was reactive to skier traffic in terrain > 35 degrees in the alpine and at tree line.
There was also evidence of recent wind loading from a southerly flow and reverse loading from overnight northerly flow. HS ranged from 80cm at ~1700m to 120cm in sheltered area in the alpine. Lots of early season hazards out there, rocks, open creeks and downed trees. Tips up?
