Rode Clemina zone today. Obs from the Bauer area. Dug a pit on a W aspect at 2000m and found 110cm of snow. Main layer of concern is the 30cm of facets capped with surface hoar at the bottom of the snowpack. We had an extended column test fail on this layer, with the fracture propagating across the entire column and the entire block falling out of the pit wall on the 25th tap. The rest of the snowpack is heavy, wet and didnt produce any results in our tests. The snow where we rode was becoming isothermal and unsupportive for walking on, postholing on every third step, although generally supportive for snowmobiles. Evidence of a widespread avalanche cycle from a few days ago still visible on many aspects.
