Quick Observation

Lovely day out touring in the Three Sisters area. Felt very much like a classic spring ski day while running the whole gammut of weather (sunny and warm to foggy and snowing) and snow surface conditions. No obvious signs of instability noted although there was one recent glide slab avalanche (size 2) from a steep rock slab at ~2300m on a SE aspect (suspected from earlier in the week with additional cracks showing adjacent to the start zone).

Weather

Classic spring weather that started splitter and gradually transitioned to completely socked in around noon.

Snowpack

We observed no obvious signs of instability today. We also found variable snow conditions that were generally aspect dependent (crusts, graupel pow, recrystalized near surface facets, windboard, etc...). We dug a quick pit on a 35* NE slope at ~2300m and observed resistant planar fracture character ~50cm below the surface on a hardness change within a larger layer of rounding near surface facets. Generally a right side up snowpack with surface instability/conditions being our primary concern today.
