We ran a hot lap on Amadeus this morning, wanted to share photos of the slopes above the route so folks can assess their overhead hazard. On the approach, I avoided some fresh windslabs in the gully by staying on the climbers right side. On our descent, I decided to go and have a poke at the same windslabs. I triggered two size 1 avalanches (intentional, no involvement), up to 30cm deep and 5m wide, running 10m. The new windslabs were sitting on top of hard old snow.
Play safe,
James
