Opal to Surprise

Beautiful day out on the Opal to Surprise traverse. -1.5 degrees at trailhead with BKN-OVC skies throughout the day. Moderate SW winds at ridge top leading to light blowing snow transported onto lee aspects. Sz 1 wind slab accidentally skier triggered on a N aspect (see photo).

Skier triggered sz 1 avalanche on wind loaded N aspect. Avalanche ran 5m before stopping on a supportive slope. Several DL sz 1 avalanches observed in steep terrain.

Moderate SW winds at ridge top.
