Winds and warming on Chief Pascal

Observed strong SW winds at 1900m with significant wind transport. Deposited snow was dense and skiing was much better in sheltered areas. Warmed throughout the day and was nearing 0 at the parking lot at 1400.

Snow conditions were: Crusty, Powder, Wind affected. Weather conditions were: Cloudy, Stormy, Windy. We rode: Dense trees, Mellow slopes, Open trees. We avoided: Alpine slopes, Convex slopes, Open trees, Steep slopes. Riding quality was good.

Avalache Conditions: Whumpfing or drum-like sounds or shooting cracks. Rapid temperature rise to near zero degrees or wet surface snow.


Strong gusts from variable directions at the ridgeline, predominantly from SW.
