Striking Out at Sleeping Beauty

Northwest Coastal

AvCan Northwest , Wednesday 15th January, 2025 5:15PM

Today we went out to Sleeping Beauty. We were able to drive to 500m with some snowy patches to cross on the road and rode sleds to 800m. The rockslide area was passable, but a bit technical. At the top of the road there was a little more than a meter of isothermal snow. Probing identified several buried crust layers, the top-most was 15cm below the snow surface. We suspect that is the bottom of the storm snow/mixed-precip from the last couple days. We had hoped to transition to skins at the road, but felt the coverage was too low and the snow conditions too poor to reasonably continue upward.
