Sometimes sled access skiing is where it is at. Sleds get us far and wide, so we see lots of terrain and find the best skiing. That was the case in the Big Y today. White Pass East generally has a less snow than the west side of the highway. Even up on the glaciers above 1700m we probed only 185cm. And the standard sled route into the Big Y is rugged and hard packed right now. But riding was good on north facing aspects with 5-10cm on new snow on top of a firm base. We kept an eye out for windslabs and we covered alot of ground with perfect visibility but we did not observe any recent avalanche activity today.
