Type

quick

Coordinates

49.050000, -117.050750

Quick Observation

We skied one steep slope that appeared to be safe. We caused minor sloughing.

Weather

It was snowing at a rate that is less than 1cm per hour.

Snowpack

The snow pack where we conducted the extended column test was greater than 295cm (we completely buried a probe). We did an extended column test that did not give a result. However, after we did the extended column test we stressed the snow pack further. We had a result on a surface hoar layer at a depth of 135cm. We then had two skiers jump on the snow pit which resulted in a sudden planar fracture at 40cm in depth.
