Quick report
Roller balls were the only clear signs of instability. The snow appeared to have a small frozen layer from the previous night but was even soft on North facing aspects. No new snow, and we did not perform any tests. The snow was stable, but wet loose was still mobile. We didn’t see any snow that had moved the morning of the 27th, but there were many other D1 and D2 slides with matching characteristics to those we triggered (see photo 2). These were both naturally occurring and human triggered. Weather was partly sunny and the temperature was around 50F mid day, no wind of note although the forecast called for 5mph.
Avalanche
We triggered two D1 slides (photos 1 and 3) on South/SouthEast slopes on the backside of Pinnacle Peak. No skiers were caught. No crowns, just wet loose build up below ski and skin tracks. Both were between 9:30-10:30am on slopes between 35-45 degrees.
