Snowpack generally seemed stable. Isolated wind slab cracking on SW and W aspects, but only a few inches deep. Saw one small avalanche on SW aspect, see photos. Hand shear tests on same aspects failed on the storm layer about 16” deep, but it took some doing and we did not get any reaction from that interface while skiing. Skied a W aspect with hood tree anchoring and experienced excellent snow conditions. Winds were calm in the morning while we ascended the creek, but picked up as we reached Red Pass. Estimate consistent 10-15 mph, gusting to 30mph. Temps were cold all day, estimate a high of 10F in the afternoon.
Avalanche
Observed one Class 1 natural avalanche, likely from Friday. Estimated the crown was 12” deep.
