Upper Log Cabin

Snow is great in wind-deposited gullies and chutes all over the mountain. Lots of whumpfing down low in the trees. We didn't experience any whumpfing above mid-mountain. Skinned up to the high col to the lookers right of the peak. Our test pit at 1350m didn't yield any notable results, but we managed to get a sheer failure 60cm down with a few additional hard pounds on the shovel. Ski cut along the steep face below the col propagated a 60m wide size 1, at approximately 1450m, which ran for 150m. Other folks had very different results/experiences out there today. I think the key concept to keep in mind here is spatial variability. Our test pit upped our confidence level, which was quickly depleted with the slab we pulled out 45 minutes later. Would recommend being caution and conservative until things settle out.
