AST course on Log Cabin today. Strong inversion indeed. -21 in the parking lot so we scurried up to 1400m to the enjoy the -4 temps! Variable snow conditions ranging from powder in sheltered areas with surface hoar up to 10mm and surface facets. 80-100cm of snow in the ground at TL. Various wind crusts and old wind slab at higher, more exposed elevations. All supportive. Profiles at TL elevations revealed a complex arrangement of crust/facet layers with numerous, sudden planar compression test results mostly in the moderate range. We had one widespread whumpf while uptracking at about 1300m. Stuck mainly to low angle, well supported slopes.
