Quick trip to the alpine to check temperatures and the elevation of the valley cloud. We also took the opportunity to do some rescue practice.
Snowpack depths at 1900 m were right around the 200 cm mark. The recent storm snow had consolidated quite a bit, although there was still around 20 cm of soft snow on the surface on north aspect slopes. We found the early November crust buried approximately 120 cm below the surface.
Even though the temperature was a little cooler than we expected (-3C at 1900 m), we chose to avoid steep south-facing slopes due to the sun that felt warm above the clouds, despite being early December.
