Quick report
Traveled from Ball Butter to Smiley’s/Ramp. S facing softening at 930, E around 1015. Strong sun, with contrails and wispy clouds aloft, wind 0-5 locally out of the NE. Snow surface is textured sastrugi with melt runnels, no real sun cupping. Lots of evidence of cornice fall from Cayuse Crater to Pucker Up. Not much remaining in the way of hanging cornices. A La Mode has melted out and generated a significant rockfall around 10:00, and other large rocks are starting to pepper slopes. No instabilities observed but left by 11:00. I expect enough heat today for skier trigger wet on steep south and east facing. Tomorrow looks warmer and it may be a warm night and partial refreeze so I’d go early and go home early. Snow removal appears to be starting on cascade lakes highway.
