Quick report
- Collapsing
- Observed
A substantial change in snowfall. After only ½" new during the day Saturday there was extremely dense steady snow overnight with moderate, steady wind until near sunrise with just 3" new snow but water content 0.36". Currently cloudy but calm and dry with 32½" of snow on the ground. Overnight high temperature was 31 and low 26 with the current a balmy 28. This wet, heavy snow sits atop light density snow from the past few days that sits on rotten snow- not a good setup for winter snow stability (but then who/what sits out here all winter and has much stability).
Avalanche
As suspected the recent snow, light at first but dense last night, is collapsing the snow underneath on that rotten surface so we are getting some small slides. They run very short, though higher and steeper could carry. The attached and the ones on Snodgrass are like the picture shows. All very small.
