Quick report
Went into Rescue with hopes of skiing a bigger line off of Penrose, but dense fog had other ideas. Thick flog blanketed us up until about 7600 feet where we were met with full sun and quite a bit of Southwest wind on the Penrose summit. Surface hoar was also increasingly present from 7000 feet upwards. The 01/04 rime layer was very much present at all elevations and even made skiing down the southern face of Penrose a bit unpleasant. 2-4 inches of light fluffy snow was present on top of the rime at all elevations even down to the road. No signs of instability noted other than the two crowns most likely from the New Years snowfall. Lots of sluff in the line we skied.
Avalanche
Two crowns about 18 inches deep noted adjacent to the skin track on the north facing aspect of the Rescue Basin. Most likely failed during the last heavy snow fall around New Years.
