Heavy Snowfall, Collapsing

Felt and heard one prominent collapse while setting a skintrack on an appx. 20 degree, east-facing slope at appx. 7900 ft. We dug a pit around 8050 ft, east-facing: 165 cm deep; faceted, sugary snow still exists at the base. Column test was not reactive until we had a skier jump on the isolated column, which caused deep, propagating failure by a sudden crack of a thin crust somewhere above the faceted layer. (We have more detailed notes on the snowpack in our test, but that was in a partner's notebook - she may upload.) Lightly snowing throughout the day, wind gusts here and there, but generally low to none.
